Finance Ministry Expects Budget Surplus

St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Ministry of Finance is expecting to present a surplus budget for 2017, says Financial Secretary Hilary Hazel. According to Ms Hazel, overall revenue for government, tax revenue and non-tax together would reach around EC$700 million dollars, whereas in 2016, it was estimated to be around EC$694 million.

“For the recurrent, we are expecting expenditures in the region of $530 million, and overall about $592 million. Of course if we are able to realize this expenditure as well as the revenue intake we will definitely be able to return a surplus.”

The Ministry of Finance and Cabinet Ministers held Budget estimates meetings with various departments and ministries in Government over several days last week; during a subsequent interview with the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) Ms Hazel that the aim was to prepare a balanced budget.
