RESIDENTS of Newtown were elated when it was announced, in the wee hours of Thursday (Dec. 29), that one of their own was adjudged this year’s National Carnival PQueen.
The Newtown beauty, 22-year-old Shafeyah Guishard, defeated four other contestants, amassed 893 points in five judged appearances at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.
In addition to the coveted title, she won the awards for Best Evening Wear, Best Swinwear and Best Talent.
The First Runner-Up position went to Charissa Caesar, who amassed 780.5 points and took the Most Popular Online Award and also the Chairperson Award; while Ackila Hanley was adjudged Second Runner-Up with 766 points and winning the Best Interview Award and Miss Photogenic.
