Scope of public works expanded to include electrical inspection on all newly built homes

Through the Electrical Inspection Division, the Public Works Department is tasked with carrying out electrical inspections of all newly built homes in St. Kitts and Nevis.

This was mentioned by the Director of the Public Works Department, George Gilbert during his May 24 appearance on “Infocus.” Director Gilbert said that although the Division is about 10 years old, many people are unaware of its function.

“Whenever there is a new property or house being built, before you get your permanent electrical connection, the inspectors would have to go out and pass your building. After this, the [St. Kitts Electricity Company] SKELEC would actually install the permanent meter,” said Director Gilbert.
